Card Drive for Soldiers

Here are the cards I made for my Friend Melissa. She belongs to a group of ladies that are doing a CARD DRIVE for soldiers. The soldiers can then fill them out and send them home to their family members. What a great way to show appreciation for all that the soldiers do for us!!

A Beginners Guide to stamping and Stampin' Up!

Terms SU means Stampin' Up!

Are you new to stamping? If so you may find this list of stamping terms helpful.

Acetate - Acetate is a plastic film that has many applications. You can stamp onto it using rubber stamps, use it for making shaker cards, and use it to make an image or embellishment appear to hang independently. You can also paint Acetate with glass paints and glitter glues.

Acid Free - Anything that is acid free will not deteriorate or discolor. It is perfect for cards and scrapbooks.

Adhesive Remover - is sold by Stampin Up to remove excess glue. It does not remove tape.

Anywhere Glue Stick - is an acid free adhesive perfect for scrapbooking and card making.

Aqua Painter - is used with Watercolor Pencils, Watercolor Crayons or Classic Stamp pads.

Each Aqua Painter holds 8 cc of liquid.

Big Shot - NEW - cuts dies from a template.

Blender Pens - used to blend Classic Inks, Markers, Watercolor Pencils or Watercolor Crayons. The points are flexible making them easy to use.

Bone Folder - A bone folder is used for scoring and burnishing. Stampin Up's bone folder is made of cattle bone, sanded and polished smooth. Use the pointed end to score and the wide end for pressing down to get a great fold on your card.

Brads - Brads are available in a wide range of designs, shapes and colors. Brads have two prongs at the back which are pushed through the paper or card and then flattened to hold in place.

Brayer - A brayer is used to ink large stamps uniformly or to create interesting backgrounds

Cardstock - All Stampin Up cardstock are at least a 80 lb. weight with the exception of vellum. You can feel the quality or our paper!

Cello Bags - Cello Bags are used to protect your cards and often used when making cards to sell. You can stamp on them with Stazon Ink to create quick treat bags also.

Classic Ink - Water-based dye ink.

Color Coach - Stamping Up makes a wheel that shows you which colors work best with each other. It is a valuable too, especially if you are just starting out.

Color Spritzer - Lets you achieve airbrushed looks using a SU marker.

Corner Punch - A corner punch is used for cutting corner shapes, usually to round off the corners of cards.

Craft Ink - is a pigment ink that is opaque. It dries slower than classic ink and can be used for embossing with truer color results.

Craft Knife - A craft knife is a very sharp pointed knife that has replaceable blades.

Crimper - Crimps paper and On Board Chipboard. It can crimp paper up to 6 1/2 inches wide.

Crop-a-Dile - Silent eyelet setter or hole punch. Punches easily thru cardstock, cardboard, fabric, leather and other thick materials.

Crystal Effects - Sold by Stampin Up. It gives a high gloss finish to your images. You can mix in Ink with a Reinker or Dazzling Diamonds for stunning effects.

Cutter Kit- Includes a paper distressing tool and 3 mini rotary tools: cutting, perforating and scoring.

Cutting Mat - A cutting mat is a mat that protects the surface you are working on.

Die Cut - Is a term that means ready to go "cut out shape".

Distressing - Distressing is a method used to give your project an old and worn look.. This can be achieved in many ways including, stamping, crumpling, inking and tearing.

Double Sided Tape - Double sided tape is sticky on both sides.

Embellishment - An embellishment is used to decorate a handmade card or scrapbook page layout.

Embossing - A technique used when stamping to create a raised image.

Embossing Buddy - Removes static or unwanted flecks of embossing powder to stick to your work.

Embossing Powder - Embossing Powder is a fine powder that is available in a variety of colors. Embossing powder is sprinkled over a stamped image and heated to create a raised impression.

Eyelets - Eyelets are metal fasteners with holes in the middle. They are easily attached using a Crop-a-Dile.

Gel Pens - Gel pens come in many different colors and can be used to color small areas in a precise color.

Glitter Glue - Glitter glue is glue that is pre mixed with very fine glitter. Glitter glue is usually white and dries clear. Stickles is a type of glitter glue.

Glue Dots or Dimensionals - Glue dots are used to attach embellishments such as buttons or other heavy materials. They give any project a 3 D look easily.

Heat and Stick Powder - Heats to a sticky surface to adhere glitter.

Heat Tool - A heat tool is used to melt Embossing Powder and Heat and Stick Powder or heat set pigment inks on paper, glass and cloth.

Iris Folding - A technique where strips of paper are folded and overlapped to create a background in an aperture card.

Light Box - A light box is a box with a light in it that is used to dry emboss, tracing or backlighting. Stampin Up's light box gives you bright, even light. Works great with our Classy

Brass Templates. I need to try these!

Paper Cutter - Stampin Up has several for purchase, a small personal trimmer and a larger table model.

Pencils, Watercolor - Set of 24 - Richly pigmented colors - Use dry as colored pencils - Blend with dampened brush, Aqua Painter, or blender pen for watercolor effect - Soft and blendable
Powder Pals - Set includes 2 trays and a brush - Large tray size, 10" x 14" x 1"; small tray size 6" x 8" x 1" - Our Powder Pals set was specifically designed to make returning embossing powder and glitter back to their containers neat and easy. The built-in funnel gives you greater control of embossing powders and glitter. You’ll wonder how you ever got along without it!

Punches - are a quick and easy way to add interest, dimension, and color to your cards, tags, and scrapbook pages. You can glue punched shapes directly onto your projects or layer a sheet of card stock that has been punched over a coordinating card stock for a reverse effect. You can even combine punches to create fun accents for your projects. We have some fabulous tool punches as well. Punches aren’t just about cute shapes anymore, although we do have the cutest designs around! Punches are not meant to cut multiple papers at once.

SU Pencil Sharpener - Sharpens Pure Color Pencils, Watercolor Pencils, and Watercolor Wonder Crayons

Rub Ons - Rub ons are transfers that are applied by rubbing with a popsicle stick. They are commonly used on scrapbook page layouts and for card making.
For best results, cut out your Rub-On image and remove it from the backing sheet. Lay the image on a flat surface, and rub it lightly with your finger to hold it in place. Then firmly rub the image with the wooden stick (included with the Rub-Ons) to transfer it to your project. You’ll know the image has transferred completely when the image becomes lighter on the transfer sheet. Pull up slowly on the transfer sheet, being careful not to slide it. If the image hasn’t transferred completely, simply lay the sheet back down and try again.
Sanding Blocks - Use with forward and backward motion. Quick Trick - Sanding blocks are great for smoothing edges that result from tearing perforated paper. You can also use them to scuff up new rubber stamps so the ink adheres better to them. If your sanding blocks get dirty, simply wash them under running water.

Scoring - A way of creating a line that can be used to fold a card.

Stamp-a-ma-Jig™Stamp Positioner - This is the perfect tool to keep you from ever ruining a whole project with one crooked stamp! The stamp positioner gives you the ability to place an image exactly where you want it, every time. (I just starting using this and I love it)

Stampin’ Glitter - Polyester glitter, available in 4 styles: Chunky Essentials, Chunky Sprinkles, Dazzling Diamonds, Fine Cosmo
Chunky Essentials: Glitter pieces are larger than Dazzling Diamonds or Fine Cosmo Comes in a package of 4 colors: Black, Red, Silver, White 1 oz. each color
Chunky Sprinkles: Glitter pieces are larger than Dazzling Diamonds or Fine Cosmo Comes in a package of 4 colors: Celery, Crystal Iris, Light Blue, Light Pink 1 oz. each color Lead Free
Dazzling Diamonds: 1/2 oz.
Fine Cosmo: Contains very fine glitter pieces Comes in a package of 5 colors: Turquoise, Celery, Orchid, Light Blue, Rose Pink 1/4 oz. each color
Use with Heat & Stick powder, Tombow Multi Purpose Adhesive, or Sticky Cuts Letters

Stampin’ Write Markers - Dual tipped markers: .5 mm fine point and flexible brush - Available individually or in a set: Available individually in exclusive Stampin’ Up! colors Available in a single color family (set of 12) Available in Neutrals assortment (set of 4) Coordinate with Classic Stampin’ Pads and exclusive Stampin’ Up! card stock
To achieve a soft, watercolor look, outline your image with a Stampin’ Write marker, and then use a blender pen, Aqua Painter, or water-dampened watercolor brush to pull and blend the marker colors into the area you desire. You can custom-color images by coloring directly on the stamp. Use the flexible brush tip on its side to shade and blend colors right on the rubber. The fine point lets you easily color small areas of the stamp. You can also omit parts of the design by coloring only those features you want to stamp. (join the marker club to get all the colors)

Stazon Ink - is a decorative permanent ink. It will not bleed when water coloring with it.

Vellum - 8-1/2" x 11" (20 sheets per package), 17-lb. text weight - Perfect as an overlay or a window. You can use pads, markers, and Watercolor Wonder crayons directly on the vellum.

Versamark - Water mark any image with this ink. It is also good for tone on tone stamping. Use with classic ink for embossing.

Watercolor Paper - 3-3/4" x 5" sheets, 20 sheets per package, 140-lb. cold-pressed paper, 100% cotton, Resists buckling when wet.

I think that covers it all!

If there is anything I can help you with, let me know!
