{Musician}

Growing up, there was a path that diverged and I took the path towards dance instead of music. I love dance and enjoyed it throughout my childhood and teenage years but I always kind of wished I could play a fun musical instrument like accoustic guitar. Props to those of you that have taken that path!  Thanks for stopping by ~ Tina

10 things you should not refrigerate.

Certain items are at their prime when stored at room temperature.

Hot Sauce
It can live happily in the pantry for up to three years.

Potatoes
Refrigeration adversely affects their flavor, so store in the pantry in paper bags (plastic bags trap moisture and speed decay). Most varieties should last three weeks.

Bread
The refrigerator dries it out fast. Instead, keep what you’ll eat within four days at room temperature and freeze the rest.

Onions
They like their original mesh bag (or any bag that allows for air circulation) in the pantry. But keep them away from potatoes, which emit moisture and gases that can cause onions to rot.

Batteries
Stash in a drawer at room temperature. Extreme cold (or heat) can diminish performance.

Garlic
It will do well for two months in the pantry. Store loose, so air can move around it.

Tomatoes
They can get mealy in the fridge, so leave them on a counter, out of plastic bags. To speed ripening, store in a paper bag. Once ripe, they’ll last for about three days.

Coffee
The fridge (and the freezer) create condensation, which can affect the flavor of both ground coffee and coffee beans. Coffee fares best in an airtight container in the pantry.

Nail Polish
Keeping it in the fridge can cause it to thicken. Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight.

Winter Squashes
Varieties such as acorn, butternut, delicata, and spaghetti will last for about a month or more in the pantry

Fruit And Cheese Kabobs

• Fruit – I used strawberries, pineapple and red and green grapes

• Cheese cubes – I used colby and cheddar

• Iceberg lettuce

• Bamboo Skewers

Wash and cut up the fruit and then alternate fruit and cheese on each skewer. I initially thought I would leave the head of lettuce whole so the skewers would be secure, but my sweet mother-in-law was extra helpful and washed the lettuce and tore it in pieces. At first I thought it was going to be a total flop, but truly it worked out okay.

I’ve seen kabobs displayed in whole heads of iceberg lettuce on a platter, but since I already planned to use a trifle bowl, a potential fail was averted. Isn’t it pretty?

I love that it looks a little like Spring….which I wish was closer than it is!

Chicken Rice

I am very bad about not measuring, so please adapt this recipe to fit your tastes....I just dump everything in the crockpot, so I'm estimating my measurements.

1 lb chicken breasts-cooked OR a rotisserie chicken from the grocery store (already roasted) chopped, shredded, or cubed

1 cup (roughly) long-grain brown rice

1 pkg. wild rice/long grain rice-this usually comes with a flavoring packet-dump it in!

1 pkg. baby carrots

1 carton mushrooms-sliced

1 box chicken broth

1 can cream of mushroom soup

2 chicken bouillion cubes

water to fill to 1/2 inch from top of crockpot

Put everything in the crockpot and let it simmer all day. The longer it simmers, the more it will be chicken and rice rather than chicken and rice stew. If you want it soupy, just add more liquid closer to serving. This makes about 8-10 servings

{Extra Income}

I know we are all busy and with school coming up things are getting crazy! With that in mind, an easy way to host an Origami Owl party is to do one online! This way you get to share all of the information with your friends, yet you don't have to host a time consuming party at your house. Plus, you'll get free jewelry for hosting!

Step one is to contact me about when you want to s
chedule the party. Next we create a Facebook event that you can invite your friends too. They can even invite their friends - the more the merrier, and more rewards for you! The party lasts a certain amount of time (1 week, 2 weeks, up to you!). At the end we tally up the sales and see how much you've earned toward free jewelry.

The cool thing about an online party is that there is no pressure. If your friends are not interested or just don't want to do it, they don't have to accept the invitation.

Tell me when your ready...

Christmas Morning Strata

Serves 6-8
  • 1 loaf French bread - cubed (either by hand or with a knife)
  • 2 packages frozen chopped spinach -- thawed and squeezed dry
  • 3/4 pound Provolone, chopped
  • 14 large eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups milk
  • Salt and pepper -- to taste
  • 2 teaspoons dry mustard (optional, but adds a nice little bite)
  • 3/4 pound cheddar, shredded
Grease a 9 x 13 inch baking dish.

Make a single layer of bread cubes in the bottom of the baking dish. Cover the bread evenly with the spinach. Then add the chopped Provolone cheese. Top with another layer of bread cubes.

In a medium sized mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk and seasonings. Pour over the layers evenly making sure that all of the top layer of bread is moistened. At this point, you have two options: refrigerate it overnight or bake for 1 hour (350 degree preheated oven)

When you bake it, watch it starting at about 50 minutes It shouldn't be ready to pull until its puffed up a bit and just starting to get golden brown (you don't want it too brown).

If you want to test it, a knife inserted in the center should come out clean. While it is cooling, top with the cheddar cheese and allow it to melt by itself. You might need to return it for just a minute to the oven to finish melting.

Makes 6-8 servings-depending on how hungry you are!

DIW ~ Designer in Waiting To Do List

I love lists.  I don’t always follow them but I do feel better knowing that I have some kind of order going when taking on a project.  This is my list for you. I learned through trial and error and experience and here I share them with you.
I assume that you are already a ‘Designer in Waiting;’ in other words, you have joined the Origami Owl wait list.  The average wait is 2 months.  It sounds like forever but there is plenty to do to pass the time.
BEFORE
you receive your Acceptance Letter and paid for your Launch Kit

1.  READ READ READ…  the Official Company guide on DESIGNERS DO & DONT list and the DIW_FAQs.
If you have not already, read the Polices and Procedures as well. Every company has guidelines (for their affiliates/reps/distributors) and knowing the policies and procedures saves you a lot of time and money.  I cannot stress enough how important reading the P&P is.  Please read it first before going forward.

As a DIW, you should have already received and read the following from your chosen Mentor:
Designer Opportunity, Career Plan, The O2 Difference, Getting Started Checklist.  Also, find out of Origami Owl training calls for DIW and Team Calls.
If you haven’t chosen a Mentor, find one.  This is the only business where you can choose your “Boss.”  Don’t take it lightly. Ask around. Send some emails. A non-existent or “bad” mentor won’t necessarily break your business but he or she won’t help it either.  While on the wait list, you still have the freedom to look for one.  The Designer ID you put in when your entry to Origami Owl arrives in your mailbox becomes your Mentor for all your Origami Owl life  – no matter what.  You cannot change Mentors once you are in, so choose wisely!

2.  Decide on the package you will invest in when your entry comes up.  See options for Origami Owl Business Kits Launch Packages and decide on yours.  Need help deciding? contact me.

3.  Start building your “Jewelry Bar” based on your Launch Kit.  This is your table that shows your Origami Owl jewelry in people’s homes, vendor events, and in your home.  It can be big or it can be small.  It is up to you.  Check out my ‘Resource’ page for Jewelry Bar ideas (under construction).

4.  Host an Origami Owl Party while you wait.  Read and take advantage of the New Hostess Program.  You can host a jewelry bar with a local Designer, or with your future-Mentor if he or she is nearby.  If you do not have a local Designer or if your future-Mentor is far away, you can host a catalog/online party.  This may sound counter-intuitive but here are the benefits of Hosting: You earn the Hostess Rewards (FREE O2 for you), you can promote that you are a future designer at your party, your friends and family will learn of the business opportunity and you start growing a team,  and you can start booking future parties.  Not having a party now can actually limit your future business.

5.  Share with others about Origami Owl.  You cannot sell for the company at this point but you may introduce people to Origami Owl by inviting them to your party, sharing your locket, and casually posting about it like you post about everything else. Do not spam or annoy people – you will push them away.  Simply “share” and be a normal and social person.  If people are interested, they will ask you for more information.

AFTER
you receive your Acceptance Letter and paid for your Launch Kit
1.  READ READ READ…  Designer Handbook, New Designer Checklist, Designer Back Office.  These will keep you focused on the most important things to do while you wait for your kit to arrive.  You get these files from your Mentor you signed up with by entering their ID # in your Acceptance Letter.  If you have never spoken to your Mentor (the person you signed up under, now is the time!)  They will be making money off of you doing your job, so make them earn it by doing theirs ;)   If you did not sign up with Designer’s # for your Mentor, the Company will randomly assign one to you.  It may take a couple of weeks before getting one.

2.  Followup with those that expressed interest in booking a party, as well as people that expressed interest in joining Origami Owl with you as their Mentor.  It is never too early to be someone’s Mentor.  You only need to be dedicated to their success as much as they are to their own and provide them the guidance they need before and after they are with Origami Owl.

3.  Book parties aka Jewelry Bars.  This is the life line of your business.  We would all love it if business came to us but the reality is that this is work -  NetWORKing.  We all must work.  There are several ways to do this and that would be a whole other post, several book recommendations, etc.

Simply focus on what I have written above.  A strong and informed DIW make for a strong Designer.  A strong Designer make for a strong business and a strong leader.  And the cycle continues…. If you want a strong team, be able to do what I have stated here and have others do the same.

Not yet a Designer in Waiting (DIW)?
Please contact me for more information.
Ready to join the list but don’t have a Mentor in mind?  Please consider me=-)
